Safety Reasons For Installing A Electrical Service Panel

Many people don't realize the importance of having an electrician for their electrical needs. An electrical service is necessary for just about everything that uses electricity in the home. If you want to install new equipment in your home or even replace old electrical wiring, you should hire an electrician to do the job. If there are issues with your electrical wiring that you aren't sure about, don't be afraid to hire someone to come out and take a look. Here are a few reasons why you should always let an electrician featured in this article to do any electrical work around your home.

The amount of amps that your house requires to operate will depend on several factors. Most homes have an electrical service of up to 200 amps, although amperage can vary greatly between older homes that haven't been updated, to very high power setups in homes that are often times run by a hot water heater. Since there are so many different things that use electricity in your home, it's important that you get an accurate reading on the amps that are being used. Electrical service professionals are trained to read these types of numbers and give you an accurate idea of what the electrical utility company is charging your house.

Not only do you want to know the electrical service size, but you should also pay close attention to the wire gauge that is being used. The gauge indicates the diameter of the wire that is being used. Electrical wire gauges must be checked regularly to make sure that they are not losing pressure and that the wire hasn't been oversold because of moisture. Electrical distribution systems are extremely complex pieces of machinery and using wire gauges incorrectly can cause damage to the wiring.

When it comes to checking the electrical service, many people focus on checking the 120v main service wires and the outlet boxes but forget to check the circuit breaker. If the circuit breaker should go out, it is important to make sure that all of the house's 120v service wires are connected to the appropriate outlet boxes, or that a fuse has been placed in case of a loss of electrical current. While it's unlikely that any of the main service wires will fail, you don't want to take any chances with your electrical current by bypassing this step. Read more here

It's a good idea to have a backup fuse panel. This panel should be located next to an electrical service box in the basement, garage, or another room that is off the floor and out of sight. It should contain fuses for each circuit. If any of the fuse should blow, this backup panel will be able to provide you with adequate protection. Having a separate panel will allow you to easily change the circuit breakers without getting up to your feet.

Finally, be sure to pay attention to the outside appearance of your electrical panel. While the location and design of your service panel may be completely functional, if it isn't pleasing to the eye it's probably time for a new one. The outside of your panel should be smooth and non-reflective. It should not have any ridges or indentations, and should have a flat surface on the bottom where the fuses are mounted. All of these things will ensure that your panel is functional at all times and can provide you with safety reasons as well. See post, visit
